I’ve heard nothing but good (if expensive) about REnntech

They are THE premier Mercedes tuner. That said, you absolutely WILL PAY TO PLAY when putting out power like that on a merc. Expect your transmission to live a short life and need upgrades. Along with brakes, rear diff, and finding yourself limited by induction and exhaust.

Good to know, I was wondering about the transmission specifically, because it's limited to 738 tq on the S65, and even their lightest tune is at 745 tq, so idk how that would work.

Yeah, that’s the thing with V12 benzes, it’s ridiculously easy to get monster power with nothing more than a ecu flash.

I would absolutely consult with AMGTech first, but what mileage are you at? I know there are tunes for the M120 for monster power (the first M120 setup in the S600 was good for well into the 500HP range), but with mine over 110k mileage, I’m super concerned with pushing it and having it come back to bite really hard. Overall, I’m happy with the car just as it is, and I want to do my best to preserve it and keep it in the best condition possible, while still being able to romp on it safely once in a while.

Excellent products. Their mufflers sound amazing on those engines too. I’ve done a bunch of RennTech mods for customers all without issue, unless you count their terrible instructions for things like the intercooler upgrade. Biggest fear would be transmission, but you have a pretty new 722.6 which is pretty solid. I wouldn’t do it if the trans service history is spotty though. But if it’s good and you don’t mind a small risk, then do it. Those transmissions are very easily rebuilt and upgraded as well...

Thanks for the name drop! Jake has an M275, bi-turbo. So simple software makes a huge jump in power.

Well it’s two turbocharged inline-6s going from 250 to 312 horsepower. Seems pretty reasonable.

I'm sitting at about 83,000 miles, so it's not too bad.

That was my only wonder, is the transmission up to 745 tq ?

Im only a little bummed the M120 got detuned so much. At the same time, I probably wouldnt have wanted it as badly if it got abysmal gas mileage.

On a related note, obviously most people dont push these V12 cars too much, so how do you see them handle the test of time? Do they take it well and handle it with minimal wear, or could modifying later in life speed up wear and tear?

Curious to know your experiences about it.

I would think so, as long as it’s in good condition and has been serviced regularly. Driving it really hard well shorten its life also. I would probably do the service every 20-30k miles rather than 40k if you do the tune though. But the 65’s I’ve seen with a tune, at ~850 lb.ft., all seen to be doing fine so far. If I were in your shoes, I would do it.

For what they are they actually hold up very well, as long as they’re cared for. Of course they all have age related issues and are high maintenance to begin with, but as far as failures go there really aren’t that many. Only very rarely will it be a major component or something to leave you stranded. I would think a clean one like yours will be relatively safe for things like that.
